Pirates love mullets

East Tower residents are all hands on deck this April, growing our mullets to support Mullets for Mental Health, raising awareness and funds for the Black Dog Institute.
At East Tower, we pride ourselves on being more than just a college; this is our family. Mental health affects our friends, our families, and our fellow students, and within a university environment, the pressures can be intense. With 1 in 5 Australians experiencing a mental illness each year, and most mental health challenges beginning before the age of 25, this is an issue that directly impacts our generation.
We believe in looking after our own and standing up for causes that matter. Growing a mullet is a fun and visible way to start important conversations, challenge stigma, and show that mental health is something we should talk about openly and without shame.
The funds we raise will support vital mental health research, education, and digital support services that reach people when and where they need help most. But this initiative is about more than fundraising; it’s about showing solidarity, building connection, and reminding people that they’re not alone.
We invite our pirates and the wider community to get involved by donating, sharing our message, and supporting the cause. Together, we can turn a bold haircut into real impact and help create better mental health for all Australians.
