Sarah from Akincare: Growing a Mullet for Mental Health
Hi everyone, I'm Sarah, and this April I'm joining the Mullets for Mental Health challenge to raise vital funds for the Black Dog Institute.
As part of the team at Akincare, I see firsthand the incredible strength and resilience of the people we support – individuals with disabilities, our cherished veterans, and those in aged care. Unfortunately, I also witness the profound impact that mental health challenges and the tragedy of suicide can have on these vulnerable individuals, their families, and the dedicated support workers who care for them. The statistics are stark: 9 people in Australia die by suicide every day, and alarmingly, over 75% of mental health problems emerge before the age of 25.
That's why I'm growing my mullet – to spark conversations, raise awareness, and contribute to real change. The funds raised will empower the Black Dog Institute to conduct crucial mental health research and deliver essential digital services and education to those who need it most. This is especially important for the communities Akincare serves, where access to timely and appropriate mental health support can make a life-changing difference.
By supporting my mullet, you'll be directly contributing to a future where mental health is prioritised and help is readily available for all Australians, including the vulnerable individuals and dedicated workers within the disability, veteran, and aged care sectors.
It would mean the world to me if you could donate to support my mullet and this incredibly important cause. Together, we can create better mental health for everyone.
