Support my mullet to help prevent suicide
9 people in Australia die by suicide every day. Over 75% of mental health problems occur before the age of 25.
My name is Jeremiah, I’m 19, and this April, I will be growing a mullet to support mental health. My top priority has always been mental health, and some of you would know I advocated endlessly for the cause throughout high school for my peers. I will never admit to being a perfect person, but I, like everyone else, have struggled to keep their head above water in the past, and I genuinely believe that the stigma against being vulnerable is still alive internally within us despite being socially-acceptable. It is hard to write this blurb because I’m still learning to allow myself to be vulnerable, to let myself feel what I’m feeling rather than holding it all down. It’s easy to confess that we struggle, but it’s harder to admit why, and even harder to confront our unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Many people see me as someone who is quite outgoing, approachable or extroverted. Perhaps you may even know me as someone who is very sociable or thrives on connection, but you’d know that there’s a sensitivity to me that is persistent, whether it be a slight pensiveness or a melancholic attitude at times. These outgoing attributes are a mask I wear with shameless dishonesty, an act performed by myself and many, many others sadly, in fear of what people might actually think if we opened up and let the world see us. This past year, It’s taken a lot of courage to reflect and work on myself, but I am hell bent on encouraging open and honest conversations about mental health, whether it be at home, at work, in school or just with a stranger.
This year I’m not just doing this for me, but for friends and family who suffer in silence, and for everyone who needs the courage to accept what they’re feeling and are brave enough to learn, grow and seek support. Whether you suffer from anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders, bipolar disorder and other mental health issues, I want you to feel supported and loved from my little corner of this world. Please, if you’re feeling generous, donate to this cause so I can help raise funds for Australians who may not have the support they deserve. Everything counts towards my goal. Thank you.

You’re a good soul jez. I feel like sometimes I don’t get the appreciation across to ya, perhaps I’m not the best at communicating that, but you’re a great mate and one of the realest mfs I’ve met in Australia so far. Seems like most people here are not grounded, I’ve heard a lot of things about stuff like tall poppy syndrome being prevalent here and I’ve heard stereotypes that lots of Aussies are selfish; so far I believe these things to be true, but you’re an outlier and have a good heart. I’m here for ya when you need, even if I may not seem like I am at times. Keep up the positivity through all the tough times that may arise in your life, because in life, good things come to those who are good. It can just take time. Here’s to 2025. Love ya homie.
